The Steel Horse Rally is Proud to Honor an Unsung Hero

The Steel Horse Rally is dedicated to "all who serve" and each year we look for new ways to recognize those who go above the call of duty. Starting at the 10th Annual Steel Horse Rally in 2025, we proudly announced "Unsung Hero" a very special honor that recognizes someone who has shown uncommon valor. And now, the recognition of an Unsung Hero is an annual tradition at the Steel Horse Rally.

At the 2025 Steel Horse Rally, the first Unsung Hero, Sgt. Nathan Reed was recognized for his uncommon valor.

A true American hero isn't necessarily defined by war or fame, but by acts of kindness, courage, and service that benefit others and the nation. A hero embodies the values of resilience, compassion, and unwavering dedication to a better future.

The application process to nominate someone to be an Unsung Hero has ended for 2026. And look for updates coming soon for the 2027 application information. Nominees include those currently serving in the military, a veteran, or serving or having served in law enforcement or as a first responder and must be 18 years old or older. The honor can also be presented posthumously. For more information, please e-mail the Steel Horse Rally office.

The 2026 Steel Horse Rally Unsung Hero, Sgt. Roy Moomey was honored on Sat., May 2nd, 2026 at 7 p.m. on the Steel Horse Rally Stage at 601 Garrison Ave. in Fort Smith, Ark. To read the complete article, click here.

"Every day somewhere in the world another unsung hero is born.

Someone who is willing,
to lay his life on the line
to save another living creature,
on this wonderful planet of ours.
To go out of their way,
and risk life and limb to save something,
from danger and certain death.

These unsung heroes don’t want medals,
glory or even fame.
In fact, most would walk away afterwards,
without anyone ever knowing their name.
It is not that they feel guilty.
They just feel that they haven’t done
anything that is special
or something someone else
wouldn’t have probably done.

Therefore, to all those unsung heroes
this poem is just for you.
For all the lives that you save
each and every day."
